Care Tips for Case Knives Tru-Sharp Stainless Steel (SS) is a special high-carbon steel that helps the blades hold an edge. It also offers extraordinary blade strength and corrosion resistance. Chrome Vanadium (CV) blades are known for their edge-holding ability and easy re-sharpening. However they are less resistant to rusting pitting and discoloration. We recommend keeping a thin film of oil on the blade to maintain the finish. Sharpening Blades are honed at an inclusive angle of 35° – 45° from the factory. Maintaining a constant angle hold the blade 17° – 22° from the surface of a sharpening stone and stroke the blade as if shaving a thin layer from the stone. Repeat the stroking motion along the entire edge of the blade starting at the blade heel and working to the tip. Turn the blade over and repeat the process. Cleaning To clean the blades and handles of your Case knife apply a small drop of oil in the joints of your knife and a small amount of oil on a clean soft rag or cloth. Wipe down the blades and handles with the soft cloth. The inside of knife can be cleaned with cotton-tipped swabs and wooden tooth picks. To remove any adhesive tape on your knife apply nail polish remover or lighter fluid to a soft cloth to easily remove the residue. Rusting may occur to older knives. Rust spots on older knives should be oiled well and the knife should be allowed to sit for a few days. Carefully scrape away the rust spot with the tip of a sharp stiff knife.
