The Baitfeeder lever on the Hercules-II controls the two-drag system. Flip it up and the rear drag engages with a light setting so line can pull out easily-ideal for finicky fish that tend to drop bait at the first sign of tension. As soon as you turn the handle the lever automatically kicks back to off and the front drag takes over. That front drag is your main braking force working just like the rear drag on a standard spinning reel. The rear drag is deliberately lighter; it lets the spool give way freely when fish are being timid and it also reduces stress on the gears if a fish hits hard out of nowhere.
