If you are learning how to hunt turkeys the first thing you need to know is the fastest way to find turkey roost locations and pattern them! We start our pre-season scouting about 2 weeks before the opener, and use that time to find the roost locations of the turkeys on our property and determine the best locations to hunt. Turkeys love to roost on ridges, so finding property that has river bottoms or other terrain features can be a hot spot. From there you are going to want to listen to the birds 10 minutes before shooting light until about 10-15 minutes before sunrise. During that “gobble window” the birds will be most vocal and easy to locate. Having electronic earmuffs to enhance your hearing distance will help a ton.
